Quick Comparison of Bolt Seals
Author: thunderbolt Date Posted:6 February 2026
The EnaBolt range consists of security seals that vary in strength, compliance (ISO/C-TPAT), and intended use. The primary difference is between "Barrier Seals" (high security, for international export) and "Indicative/Light Duty Seals" (for domestic use).
| Model | Classification | ISO 17712? | C-TPAT? | Pin Size | Key Feature | Best For |
| EnaBolt 1 | High Security | Yes | No | 8mm | Standard coated bolt | General Export / Logistics |
| EnaBolt 3 | Flexible | No | No | Cable | Flexible Cable Pin | Misaligned locking holes |
| EnaBolt 4 | Barrier Seal | No | No | 5mm | Thinner pin (7mm coated) | Domestic Transport / Trucking |
| EnaBolt 5 | High Security | Yes | Yes | 8mm | 18mm Steel Perch | High-Risk Export (USA/UK) |
| EnaBolt 6 | High Security | Yes | Yes | 8mm | "Naked" | Cost-effective Export |
| EnaBolt 8 | High Security | Yes | No | 9.5mm | All-Metal / Recyclable | Heavy Duty / Eco-friendly |
Detailed Differences
1. EnaBolt 1 (The "Standard" Export Seal)
![]()
Status: High Security (ISO 17712 Compliant).
Design: A standard steel bolt with a plastic coating (ABS) on both the pin and barrel.
Use Case: Ideal for general international shipping that requires an ISO seal but doesn't strictly need C-TPAT (US Customs) compliance features like anti-spin.
Difference: It is the entry-level "High Security" seal.
2. EnaBolt 3 (The "Flexible" One)
![]()
Status: Indicative / Barrier.
Design: Unlike the others, this does not have a solid steel straight pin. It uses a steel cable attached to a bolt-like head.
Use Case: Specifically designed for containers or truck doors where the locking holes do not align perfectly, making a stiff straight bolt impossible to insert.
3. EnaBolt 4 (The "Domestic" Seal)
![]()
Status: Barrier Seal (Not ISO High Security).
Design: It has a thinner steel pin (5mm core) compared to the others (8mm).
Use Case: Domestic trucking and rail. It is strong enough to require bolt cutters (preventing opportunistic theft) but is NOT rated for international shipping (especially to the US).
Difference: Much cheaper and lighter than the 5 or 6 series.
4. EnaBolt 5 (The "Premium" C-TPAT Seal)
![]()
Status: High Security (ISO 17712 & C-TPAT Compliant).
Design: Features an 18mm Steel Perch.
Why this matters: If a thief smashes the plastic coating off the seal, the metal perch prevents the bolt from falling through the container latch.
Variants:
5a: Standard high-security version.
5b: Uses Double-Colour Injection Moulding, making the markings easier to read and harder to counterfeit.
Use Case: High-value international cargo, specifically bound for the USA or UK.
5. EnaBolt 6 (The "Naked" Seal)
![]()
Status: High Security (ISO 17712 & C-TPAT Compliant).
Design: Often called a "Naked" bolt because the pin shaft is exposed metal without a plastic coating, though the barrel usually has plastic for printing numbers.
Difference: It offers the same security strength as the EnaBolt 5 but is often slightly cheaper because it uses less plastic.
6. EnaBolt 8 (The "Heavy Duty" Eco Seal)|
![]()
Status: High Security.
Design: An All-Metal seal with no plastic coating on the pin or barrel.
Use Case: Heavy industrial machinery or environments where plastic would melt/degrade.
Difference: Because it is 100% metal, it is easier to recycle (no need to separate plastic from steel). It also has a thicker 9.5mm pin for extreme durability.
